Normunity

Client Overview
Normunity is a biotech company that creates medicines designed to free normal immunity, hence their name: Normunity. What makes them unique is their special collaboration with the renowned Yale Chen Lab.
My Role in the Project
I worked as the art director for this project, working directly with The Yates Network and SAC Designs. I oversaw the photoshoot by Gigi Demanio and animations by Ragdoll.
Design and Strategy
Working with the idea of revelation, the Yates team, SAC Designs team and I explored a variety of decoding visuals with Normunity. The research their partners at the Chen Lab do, allows them to put cancer’s secrets in plain sight.
Putting Cancer’s Secrets in Plain Sight
Through various rounds of exploration Normunity really connected with the idea of a puzzle box opening up to reveal everything and trigger normal immunity. To fully explore this, I learned 3D modeling and created several iterations of their cancer tumor puzzle box. These designs were then beautifully animated by Ragdoll.
Capturing the Complex
The Normunity brand is more symbolic than descriptive. Their hero animation is a puzzle box, and their logo is a representation of who they are rather than what they do. I continued this through their scientific visuals, condensing their complex scientific story into greatly simplified graphical elements. Their color palette is their hero rather than overly complex 3d renderings of tumors and cells. I worked closely with the Yates team’s scientific writers to bring their narrative to life with custom visuals that fit with Normunity’s very bold and graphical brand.
So wonderful!
